Carved directly into the rock on the bank of the Danube, the face of the Dacian king Decebalus watches over the entrance to the Gorges.

About the monument

Standing tens of metres tall, it is the largest rock sculpture in Europe. Carved over several years, it impresses through the way it merges with the landscape.

Getting there

The finest views are from the water, by boat, on trips through the Danube Gorges.
