Located at over 1,900 m altitude, Lake Gâlcescu is one of the most beautiful glacial lakes in Oltenia, offering spectacular alpine panoramas.
How to get there
Access is by car to the Rânca resort, located on Transalpina, where several starting points for mountain trails can be found. From here, follow a mountain hike of approximately 3–4 hours, depending on the chosen route and pace. Important: It is essential to have appropriate mountain equipment, as the trail involves differences in altitude and more demanding sections.
When to go
The ideal period to visit Lake Gâlcescu is between June and September, when the snow has receded and the trails are passable. In the cold season, access is difficult and recommended only for experienced mountaineers or hikers, due to weather conditions and increased risk.
Activities in the area
Mountain hikes are the main activity, the trails offering spectacular alpine views throughout the climb. The area is also ideal for landscape photography, the lake and its surroundings being a true magnet for nature enthusiasts and mountain frames.

There are no dining facilities near the lake, but in the Rânca resort there are chalets, guesthouses and restaurants where warm meals can be served, before or after the hike.
